What are Tensioner and Idler Bearing?
Tensioner, which is normally made up of housing, tensioning arm, wheel body, tensional spring, rolling bearing and bush etc, is an important belt tensioning device of automotive transmission system. A well-functioning tensioner is able to adjust tension force automatically to help the transmission system work safely and reliably by judging belt tightness. Automatic belt tensioning systems have been used on toothed belt drives since the 1990s. The advantages and functions of an automatic belt tensioning system are:
-simple setting of the specified belt force at initial assembly.
-maintenance of a defined belt force as consistently as possible via compensation of thermal expansion, belt stretch and wear etc.
-ensuring an optimum noise level while reducing belt oscillations.
-preventing tooth jump.
Idler pulleys are used to calm critical belt sections, prevent collision problems with the adjacent components and guide the belt or increase the wrap angle at adjacent pulleys.
Both tensioner and idler pulleys must fulfill the same requirements in relation to long service life, high temperature and low noise generation. Tensioner and Idler Bearings are quick-wear parts. TINGJIN® Bearing suggests a tensioner or idler bearing should be replaced after every 50 000 KM – 60 000 KM running with timing belts together to ensure low noise, safe and smooth driving experience.
